PART 4 – The Road Finally Led Home

PART 4 – The Road Finally Led Home

Sheriff Collins drove Noah and Emma to County General Hospital that evening.

Neither child understood why everyone looked so worried.

They simply kept asking the same question.

"Is Mommy here?"

When they reached the intensive care unit, Laura was still unconscious.

Machines beeped softly around her bed.

Emma began crying.

Noah climbed carefully onto a chair.

He reached for his mother's hand.

"Mom..."

"We kept walking."

"Just like you said."

"We didn't stop."

Doctors and nurses quietly wiped away tears.

Then something extraordinary happened.

Laura's fingers moved.

At first...

Only slightly.

Then she squeezed Noah's tiny hand.

The heart monitor changed rhythm.

Doctors rushed into the room.

Hours later...

Laura slowly opened her eyes.

The first thing she saw was Noah asleep beside her bed...

Still holding her hand.

She burst into tears.

"I'm sorry..."

"I'm so sorry."

Noah woke instantly.

He smiled the biggest smile anyone in the room had ever seen.

"I knew you'd find us."

There wasn't a dry eye in the hospital.
