Fierce family bonds secure permanent freedom.
Within forty-five seconds, Marcus and Chloe had scrambled up the stairs, thrown a few frantically grabbed items into cheap suitcases, and fled out the front door into the chilly night air, disappearing down the dark street on foot.
The grand foyer fell into a profound, peaceful silence—a silence unmarred by fear, intimidation, or abuse.
My five brothers stood around me in a protective circle, their fierce expressions softening as Dominic stepped forward and pulled me into a warm, grounding embrace.
"Are you and Maya okay?" Dominic asked softly against my hair.

"The deed to this estate has already been transferred into your sole name via emergency family trust restructuring," Dante informed me with a reassuring smile. "And the personal protection detail is stationed outside. Nobody will ever touch you or Maya again."
I walked upstairs, gently unlocking Maya’s bedroom door and stepping inside.
My daughter was awake, sitting up in bed with wide, hopeful eyes, listening to the unfamiliar commotion downstairs.
She looked at me, her lower lip trembling slightly.
"Mommy? Are we still here?"
I walked over, climbed onto the bed, and pulled her tightly into my arms, burying my face in her hair.
"We’re still here, baby," I whispered, kissing her cheek. "And we are never, ever leaving."
