Part 3: The betrayal runs deep!

Part 3: The betrayal runs deep!
The silence in the ballroom felt heavier than a tomb. Every pair of eyes shifted from Sarah’s calm, icy face to Mark, who stood frozen like a statue, his sweat glistening under the glare of the grand crystal chandeliers.
Sarah looked down at the photograph in her hand. The image was undeniable: Mark standing at the hotel reception counter, his arm draped around Chloe Bennett—his "hardworking, underpaid executive assistant." In the photo, Chloe was smiling brightly, twirling a room key while wearing a diamond bracelet that looked suspiciously identical to the one Mark claimed he had "lost" during a business trip last month.
"Chloe Bennett..." Sarah murmured, her voice carrying a terrifying stillness. "The assistant you insisted on hiring six months ago because she was 'struggling to pay her mother's medical bills'?"
"Sarah, listen to me! It’s a setup!" Mark pleaded, his voice reaching a desperate, high-pitched screech. He tried to grab Sarah's hand, but Arthur Sterling’s two burly security guards stepped forward, forming an impenetrable wall between them. "I was just... I was helping her secure a room for an international client! The money transfers were for legitimate company expenses! You have to believe me!"
Evelyn Vance hurriedly rushed over, her silk gown rustling loudly as she tried to salvage what was left of her family’s dignity.
"Sarah, darling, please don't let this lawyer poison your mind!" Evelyn exclaimed, throwing an arrogant glare toward Arthur before turning a fake, overly sweet smile back to Sarah. "Mark loves you! Men in high positions make minor accounting mistakes all the time. It’s just business! Besides, who is this man to crash our family's celebration and throw wild accusations?"
"This man," Sarah said, turning a freezing gaze to Evelyn, "is the managing partner of Sterling & Associates. And he answers directly to the Chairman of Montgomery Global Enterprise."
Evelyn blinked, confusion washing over her face. "Montgomery Global? What does a multinational conglomerate have to do with you? You’re just a modest fashion designer!"
A quiet chuckle echoed from the back of the ballroom.
An elderly gentleman with silver hair, wearing a tailored three-piece charcoal suit, pushed his way through the stunned crowd. He walked with a polished wooden cane, but his step was firm and commanding.
Mark’s eyes widened in horror as he recognized the man immediately. It was Richard Montgomery—one of the wealthiest venture capitalists in the nation, a man whose name was etched into the skyscrapers of the city skyline.
"She’s not just a fashion designer, Mrs. Vance," Richard said smoothly, stopping right beside Eleanor and gently taking her arm. "She is my daughter. And the sole heir to the Montgomery estate."
A collective gasp swept through the entire hall.
Guests who had previously looked down on Eleanor and treated Sarah like a lucky girl marrying up into the "prestigious" Vance family now stood with their mouths wide open. Several prominent investors who had come to the gala to sign deals with Mark instantly backed away, realizing they had been courted by a fraud.
"R-Richard Montgomery?" Mark stammered, his knees buckling. He looked at Eleanor, who was softly wiping her tears with a handkerchief, and then at Sarah, whose elegant composure now made total sense. "You... your father is Richard Montgomery?"
"My father built an empire from nothing," Sarah said, looking at Mark with unadulterated disgust. "And my mother—the woman you called a 'worthless hag' and shoved onto the floor—is the co-founder of the foundation that funded your entire startup."
Mark felt the world spinning around him. The penthouse, the luxury sports cars, the high-society invitations, the respect from city elites—it hadn't been earned by his brilliant business mind. It had been handed to him on a silver platter by the woman he had just humiliated.
"Sarah..." Mark whispered, dropping heavily to both knees right onto the cold marble floor. Tears of pure terror streamed down his cheeks as he reached out toward her. "I was blind! I was stupid! Please, give me one more chance! I'll fire Chloe right now! I'll never see her again! I'll beg your mother for forgiveness on my knees every day for the rest of my life!"
Evelyn, realizing the catastrophic scale of the disaster, also fell to her knees beside her son, grabbing Sarah’s skirt. "Sarah, please! Think of our family name! Think of the wedding preparations! We can fix this! Don't ruin Mark's life over a small mistake!"
Sarah stepped back, letting her skirt slip from Evelyn's trembling fingers.
"You didn't care about ruining my mother's dignity two minutes ago, Evelyn," Sarah said coldly. "So why should I care about your family name?"
She turned to Arthur Sterling. "Arthur, lock down all Vance Logistics assets immediately. Revoke his lease on the penthouse, repossess the company vehicles registered under my trust, and file a formal charge for corporate embezzlement against both Mark Vance and Chloe Bennett by midnight."
"Right away, Ms. Montgomery," Arthur replied with a crisp nod. He motioned to his guards. "Escort Mr. Vance and his mother off the premises."
"Wait! No! You can't do this to me!" Mark screamed as the heavy security guards lifted him by his arms, dragging his polished shoes across the marble floor. "Sarah! SARAH!"
The crowd watched in silent awe as the once-arrogant CEO was dragged out of the grand hall like a common trespasser, his mother weeping hysterically right behind him.
As the heavy oak doors slammed shut, shutting out Mark's desperate cries, the tension in the room began to settle. Sarah turned to her mother, wrapping her arms around her in a tight, comforting hug.
"I'm so sorry you had to endure that, Mom," Sarah whispered softly.
"I'm just glad you saw his true face before you walked down the aisle, sweetheart," Eleanor murmured, patting her daughter's back.
Suddenly, Arthur’s phone rang. He stepped aside to answer it, his expression growing darker with every second. After hanging up, he hurried back to Sarah, his face pale.
"Ms. Montgomery," Arthur whispered urgently, making sure the surrounding guests couldn't hear. "We have a situation upstairs in the penthouse suite."
Sarah raised an eyebrow. "Chloe Bennett?"
"Yes," Arthur said, leaning in closer. "Security just accessed the suite. Chloe is gone... but she didn't leave empty-handed. She took your private safe from the master closet. The safe containing your family’s confidential corporate ledgers and the original deeds to the Montgomery shipping ports."

Sarah’s eyes narrowed into sharp slits. "She didn't act alone."
"No," Arthur replied softly, pointing to a newly received text message on his screen. "Her accomplice was spotted on the security cameras assisting her twenty minutes ago... your stepbrother, Julian."
