PART 4 – The Father Everyone Believed Was Dead
David Carter had been declared dead four years earlier.
An overseas humanitarian mission ended in disaster when a convoy disappeared during a violent flood.
For months...
His family believed he had died.
What no one knew...
Was that David had survived.
He spent years recovering in another country after suffering severe memory loss.
Only recently had fragments of his past returned.
He had been searching desperately for his wife.
Searching for children he had never met.
Then the television showed a little boy holding a piece of bread...
Protecting a little girl.
David immediately recognized the family photograph shown during the news report.
It was the same picture he carried inside his wallet.
He drove all night.
When he reached the relief shelter...
Ben was sitting beside Lily's bed.
Wide awake.
Watching over her.
David slowly knelt.
"Ben?"
The little boy looked up.
"Yes?"
"I'm..."
His voice cracked.
"I'm your dad."
Ben remained silent.
Then quietly asked,
"Did Mommy find you?"
David closed his eyes.
Tears rolled down his weathered face.

"But she never stopped believing I would find you."
