PART 4 – The Promise Was Never Broken

PART 4 – The Promise Was Never Broken

Three days later...

Doctors finally identified Sarah through fingerprint records.

Sheriff Brooks personally drove Mason and Rosie to County Memorial Hospital.

Mason carried the same wrapped sandwich.

It had become dry and hard.

He refused to throw it away.

"It's for Mommy."

When they entered Sarah's hospital room...

Machines surrounded her bed.

Bandages covered much of her forehead.

Rosie immediately reached for her mother's hand.

Mason climbed onto a chair beside the bed.

"Mom…"

"We waited."

"I didn't leave."

"I did exactly what you said."

The room fell silent.

Nurses wiped away tears.

Even Sheriff Brooks turned away.

Then...

Sarah's fingers moved.

A doctor looked up.

"Wait..."

Her eyelids slowly fluttered open.

The first face she saw...

Was her little boy still clutching that dried sandwich.

Sarah burst into tears.

"I'm sorry."

"I couldn't come back."

Mason smiled.

"I knew you would."

No blame.

No anger.

May you like

Only love.

It was the kind of forgiveness only a child could give.
