PART 4 – The Father Who Never Stopped Looking

PART 4 – The Father Who Never Stopped Looking

Five hundred miles away...

Jacob Miller sat alone inside a truck stop diner.

The television above the counter played the evening news.

He almost ignored it.

Until he saw the little boy.

A tiny child carrying a baby through downtown traffic.

Jacob's coffee cup slipped from his hand.

Tommy.

The eyes.

The smile.

The way he protected his sister.

Exactly like Hannah.

Years earlier...

Jacob had been deployed overseas as an Army engineer.

During a classified mission...

His convoy disappeared.

For nearly four years...

He had been listed as missing in action.

By the time he returned...

Hannah had vanished.

Neighbors believed she had moved away.

Every address led nowhere.

Every phone number was disconnected.

He searched for years.

Never knowing she had spent those years raising two children alone.

DNA testing confirmed what his heart already knew.

Tommy and Emma were his children.

Jacob drove through the night without stopping.

When he finally reached the children's shelter...

Tommy stood in front of Emma's crib.

Protecting her.

Just as he always had.

Jacob slowly knelt.

"I'm your daddy."

Tommy stared silently.

Then asked one question.

"Are you going to make me carry Emma forever?"

Jacob's heart shattered.

He gathered both children into his arms.

"No, buddy."

"You've carried enough."

May you like

"Now..."

"It's my turn."
