PART 4 – The Officer Everyone Buried Too Soon

PART 4 – The Officer Everyone Buried Too Soon

The GPS signal led investigators nearly eighty miles outside Chicago.

Deep into an abandoned industrial property surrounded by woods.

SWAT officers moved in quietly.

Rex became restless.

His ears stood straight.

His tail stopped moving.

Then he barked once.

A sound Jake hadn't heard since Daniel disappeared.

Rescue teams searched the underground tunnels beneath the warehouse.

One officer suddenly shouted,

"Over here!"

Behind a rusted steel door...

They found a small concrete room.

Inside sat a man with a long gray beard.

Thin.

Weak.

Barely conscious.

When Rex squeezed through the doorway...

The man slowly lifted his head.

A faint smile appeared on his face.

"Good boy..."

Officer Daniel Hayes.

Alive.

For two years...

A criminal trafficking network had kept him hidden after he refused to help destroy evidence against powerful people.

Every escape attempt had failed.

But Daniel never stopped believing someone would find him.

When he saw Rex...

He whispered,

"I knew you'd come."

Jake knelt beside his former partner.

"We all thought you were gone."

Daniel shook his head weakly.

"They wanted everyone to think that."

Then he looked around the room.

"My son..."

"Is Ben safe?"

May you like

Jake smiled.

"He's waiting for you."
