The Little Boy Waited Outside the Hospital Every Night... Because He Believed His Mother Would Wake Up If He Didn't Leave.

PART 2 – "Mommy Said She'd Wake Up Soon."

The elderly nurse's name was Margaret.

She had worked at St. Mary's Hospital for thirty-two years.

She had comforted grieving families.

Held the hands of dying patients.

Watched miracles happen.

And watched miracles never come.

But nothing prepared her for the little boy sitting alone on the front steps every single night.

She wrapped a warm blanket around his tiny shoulders.

"Sweetheart..."

"What's your name?"

"Ethan."

"How old are you?"

"I'm six."

"And your mommy?"

Ethan pointed toward the intensive care unit on the fourth floor.

"She's sleeping."

"The doctors said she's very tired."

Margaret swallowed hard.

"Who stays with you at night?"

The little boy smiled proudly.

"I do."

"I promised Mommy."

Every evening, Ethan waited until the hospital cafeteria closed.

A kind janitor secretly gave him leftover soup.

He slept curled up on a waiting-room chair.

Every morning, before nurses changed shifts, he quietly washed his face in the public restroom and stood outside his mother's room, hoping she would open her eyes.

Margaret checked the medical chart.

Emily Dawson.

Thirty-four.

Emergency brain surgery after collapsing at work.

No insurance.

No listed relatives.

No emergency contact.

Only one note remained in the file.

Minor child found waiting outside room.

Margaret's eyes filled with tears.

That evening she carried two hot meals to Ethan.

The little boy thanked her politely.

Then divided everything into two equal portions.

"One for Mommy."

"One for me."

"But she can't eat yet," Margaret whispered.

Ethan smiled with innocent certainty.

"I know."

"But when she wakes up..."

"...she'll be hungry."

Margaret turned away so he wouldn't see her crying.

Just then...

A doctor hurried into the ICU.
