PART 4 – The Promise Forgotten for Eight Years

PART 4 – The Promise Forgotten for Eight Years

That night...

George couldn't sleep.

He stared at the photograph again and again.

Then it hit him.

Daniel Brooks.

Not a soldier anymore.

General Daniel Brooks.

A decorated war hero.

Now director of the National Veterans Foundation.

George immediately drove to the foundation headquarters the next morning.

The receptionist glanced at the old photograph.

Within minutes...

General Brooks walked into the lobby.

The moment he saw the picture...

His face turned completely white.

"Where..."

"...did you get this?"

George quietly answered.

"From a little boy."

"Named Liam."

Daniel's knees nearly gave out.

Eight years earlier...

Before deploying overseas...

He had made a promise to his best friend.

"If anything ever happens to you..."

"I'll raise your son like my own."

But three weeks later...

Daniel was captured during a classified mission.

Officially listed as missing.

By the time he returned home almost three years later...

His friend's family had disappeared.

Every record led nowhere.

For years...

He searched.

Never knowing Liam had spent every birthday alone.

Daniel whispered,

"I failed him."

George placed a hand on his shoulder.

"No."

"You were simply looking in the wrong places."

May you like

Daniel immediately climbed into his truck.

"There won't be another birthday without family."
