The Little Boy Sat Outside a Pizza Shop Every Night... But He Never Asked for a Single Slice.

PART 2 – "Mommy Said We'd Eat Pizza Together Someday."

The pizza shop owner, Anthony Romano, slowly sat down on the cold sidewalk beside the little boy.

"My name's Anthony."

"What's yours, buddy?"

The boy hugged his baby sister a little tighter.

"I'm Noah."

"And this is Ava."

"How old are you?"

"I'm six."

Anthony smiled gently.

"Have you been waiting here long?"

Noah nodded.

"Every night."

"For how many nights?"

The little boy looked toward the glowing restaurant sign.

"I don't know."

"I stopped counting."

Anthony placed the warm pizza into Noah's hands.

The smell alone made the little boy's stomach growl.

Still...

He didn't take a bite.

Instead, he carefully folded the slices back into the box.

"You don't like pizza?" Anthony asked.

Noah smiled.

"I love pizza."

"Then why won't you eat?"

The little boy looked at his sleeping sister.

"My mommy promised..."

"...that when things got better..."

"...she'd buy us our very first pizza."

"I don't want my first slice..."

"...without her."

Anthony couldn't speak.

He quietly carried the children inside after closing time.

His employees warmed milk for Ava.

One waitress found clean blankets.

Another brought stuffed animals from a charity box kept in the office.

For the first time in days...

The children slept somewhere warm.

As Anthony carefully moved Noah's tiny backpack...

A worn envelope slipped onto the floor.

Across the front, written in faded blue ink, were five words:

May you like

If I Don't Come Back...

Anthony's hands began to shake.
