My Sister-in-Law Called My Unborn Baby "Another Man's Bastard"... Then My Soldier Husband Walked Through the Front Door.

PART 2 – The Daughter They Chose to Believe
The hallway fell silent.
My husband, Captain Ethan Brooks, stood frozen in the doorway.
His camouflage uniform was still soaked from the military transport that had brought him home only an hour earlier.
His duffel bag slipped from his hand.
"Lillian!"
He sprinted across the room, dropping to his knees beside me.
Blood stained the hardwood beneath my legs.
My breathing came in painful gasps.
"Our baby..." I whispered.
"Please..."
"Save our baby..."
Ethan ripped off his jacket and pressed it beneath my head.
Then he looked up.
His eyes locked onto his sister, Vanessa.
She was still standing there.
Not frightened.
Not ashamed.
Only angry that he'd come home too soon.
"What happened?" Ethan asked.
Before I could answer...
Vanessa burst into tears.
"Ethan!"
"She attacked me!"
"You have no idea what she's been doing while you were gone!"
Their mother, Carol, rushed into the room.
She immediately wrapped her arms around Vanessa.
"My poor daughter..."
Then she looked at Ethan.
"We tried to protect you."
"Protect me?"
Carol nodded dramatically.
"Lillian has been seeing another man."
"The baby isn't yours."
The room spun around me.
I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
After three years of infertility...
After countless doctor's appointments...
After two heartbreaking miscarriages...
This child had been the miracle Ethan and I had prayed for.
Yet his own family stood there...
Calling our miracle a lie.
Vanessa quickly pulled out her phone.
"I didn't want you to find out this way."
She opened several photographs.
One showed me entering a downtown medical building with an unfamiliar man.
Another showed us sitting together in a café.
A third captured him placing a hand gently on my shoulder.
Carol folded her arms.
"Still think we're lying?"
For one terrifying second...
Ethan said nothing.
He simply stared at the photographs.
My heart broke.
Had he believed them?
An ambulance siren echoed outside.
Paramedics rushed in.
As they lifted me onto the stretcher, I reached weakly toward Ethan.
"I never cheated..."
The doors closed before I could hear his answer.
Back inside the house...
Ethan quietly picked up Vanessa's phone.
He zoomed in on the first photograph.
Then...
A slow smile appeared on his face.
Because he recognized the man immediately.
Not a lover.
