Part 8 - A future unbound.

Part 8 - A future unbound.
Three years after the doors of the facility opened, the morning sun broke over the quiet hills, casting a warm, golden glow across the gardens of the Sarah Vance Center.
In the peaceful courtyard, four-year-old Sarah ran through the grass, her bright laughter echoing against the stone walls. She was chasing a butterfly, her little feet sure and strong—a living, breathing miracle after the nightmare of her birth.
I sat on a wooden bench near the garden path, watching her with a full heart. Julian walked over from the main entrance, carrying two fresh cups of coffee, his polished suit coat left in his office, his shirt sleeves rolled up to his elbows.
He handed me a cup and sat beside me, taking my hand and lacing his fingers through mine.
"The state prosecutor called this morning," Julian said quietly, looking out toward the lawn.
I turned to him, my eyebrows raising slightly. "Genevieve?"
"Her final appeal was officially denied," Julian replied, his voice calm and unburdened. "And Victoria's lawyers withdrew their motion for a sentence reduction. Neither of them will ever step outside those walls again."
I nodded slowly, taking a sip of coffee. Years ago, that news might have brought a sharp flash of vindication or relief. But standing here today, surrounded by the life we had built, their names held no power over us anymore. They were simply shadows of a past that had completely burned away.
"Mommy! Look!" Sarah came running up to the bench, her cheeks rosy from the cool morning air. She proudly held out a small, yellow wildflower she had picked from the lawn. "For you!"
I leaned down, taking the flower and tucking it gently behind her ear before pulling her into a warm hug. "It's beautiful, sweetheart. Just like you."
Julian scooped her up into his arms, tossing her gently in the air as she giggled, her tiny arms wrapping tightly around his neck.
Looking at the two of them—the man who had risked everything to protect his family, and the daughter who had fought against all odds to survive—I knew that every tear shed, every drop of blood spilled on that marble floor, had led us to this absolute peace.
We had dismantled an empire of greed and deceit, and in its place, we had raised a legacy of love, truth, and unshakeable strength.

Julian met my eyes over Sarah’s shoulder, a deep, quiet understanding passing between us.
We didn't need to look back anymore. Our future was right here in front of us, wide open and boundless under the morning sky.
