PART 4: My Husband Watched His Mother Choke Me… Then He Finished the Job

Officer Collins plugged the flash drive into her laptop.
The first video appeared almost immediately.
The timestamp read:
Eleven months earlier.
It showed the mansion's breakfast room.
Margaret stood beside the table while Ethan drank coffee.
I was serving breakfast.
"You call this food?" Margaret snapped before throwing the plate onto the floor.
Porcelain shattered around my feet.
The younger version of me bent down to clean the mess.
Margaret deliberately kicked the broken pieces toward my hands.
The next video began.
This one showed me carrying grocery bags inside the kitchen.
Ethan walked past without saying a word.
Margaret deliberately stuck out her foot.
I stumbled.
The bags crashed to the floor.
Fruit rolled across the marble.
Instead of helping...
They laughed.
Officer Collins clenched her jaw.
"There are more."
Martha nodded silently.
"There are dozens."
The recordings continued.
Video after video.
Month after month.
Margaret insulting me.
Ethan calling me "dead weight."
Meals thrown away.
Bedroom doors locked from the outside.
Doctor appointments canceled without my knowledge.
One recording made everyone stop breathing.
It had been filmed only two weeks earlier.
Margaret sat in the library speaking with the family attorney.
"If the girl signs before delivery..."
"...the baby belongs to us."
"And if she refuses?" the attorney asked.
Margaret smiled.
"Then she'll be declared mentally unstable."
Another voice entered the conversation.
Ethan.
"If that doesn't work..."
"...we'll say she's an unfit mother."
"I'll testify myself."
Officer Collins looked at me.
"They planned this."
I nodded weakly.
"They've been planning it since I became pregnant."
Outside the room, detectives arrived with a search warrant.
News of a possible domestic assault involving one of the state's wealthiest families had already reached headquarters.
Margaret remained calm.
"This proves nothing."
"Families argue."
Officer Collins calmly held up another file found on the flash drive.
It wasn't a video.
It was a scanned medical report.
My name appeared at the top.
But something had been altered.
The due date.
The doctor's notes.
Someone had changed the record to make it appear I suffered severe emotional instability.
A detective compared it with the hospital's electronic records.
The original report appeared seconds later.
Completely different.
Someone had forged my medical documents.
The detective slowly looked toward Ethan.
"Mr. Carter..."
"You are under investigation for domestic violence, coercive control, conspiracy, and evidence tampering."
Ethan's confidence finally disappeared.
Margaret stepped in front of him.
"You can't arrest my son."
Officer Collins answered calmly.
"We're not here because your family is wealthy."
"We're here because someone tried to steal a woman's life..."
"...and possibly her child."
Just then...
I felt a sharp pain tear through my abdomen.
I gasped.
Warm liquid ran down my legs.
The paramedic looked at me once...
Then shouted the words every mother fears.
"Her water just broke!"
The room exploded into chaos.
As I was rushed toward the ambulance, I caught one last glimpse of Ethan.
For the first time since I had met him...
He wasn't looking at me.
May you like
He was staring at the police placing handcuffs on his own mother.
