"Mr. Prosecutor," Judge Sterling’s voice echoed like a crack of thunder through the courtroom.
It was dripping with lethal ice.
"Would you care to explain why the corporate surveillance footage exonerating the defendant was missing from the initial case files handed to your office?"
Andrew Vale stumbled backward.
He nearly tripped over his own chair as the reality of a federal obstruction charge slammed into him.
"I... I don't know, Your Honor!"
"The police department handled the evidence collection!"
"I relied on their investigative summary!"
Andrew panicked, throwing the police under the bus in a desperate bid to save his own career from total destruction.
"Bailiff," Judge Sterling ordered.
His eyes flashed with righteous fury.
"Contact the state police division immediately."
"Have Detective Miller and Vice President Marcus Vance detained for conspiracy, tampering with evidence, and framing an innocent man."
"Yes, Your Honor!" the bailiff barked.
He turned smartly on his heel to carry out the commands.
Within minutes, uniformed officers rushed out of the courtroom to execute the arrest warrants.
They left the prosecutor standing alone and utterly defenseless before the bench.
The public gallery erupted into chaotic chatter.
Reporters were furiously tapping notes into their phones as the biggest corporate corruption scandal of the decade unfolded in real-time.
Lucas sat frozen at the defense table.
Tears of profound relief finally broke free and streamed down his cheeks.
