“It’s not a fake, Rebecca,” I spoke quietly into the microphone, my voice cutting through her hysterical sobbing like a surgical blade. “And neither are the certified bank statements currently displaying on that screen, proving you systematically routed funds from my primary business accounts into an unauthorized holding company registered in the Cayman Islands.”

I tapped the screen control interface, bringing up a grid of digital signatures and wire transfer receipts that itemized every single dollar she had attempted to steal over the past eighteen months.

The guests in the front row watched in stunned silence as the undeniable financial paper trail unraveled their social climber’s masterpiece in real time.

Her father buried his face in his hands, utterly crushed by the public exposure of his daughter’s criminal greed, while her mother sat paralyzed, staring at the floor as if she wished the earth would open up and swallow her whole.

I released the microphone trigger, letting it drop from my hand.

It hit the wooden floorboards with a loud, ringing thud of audio feedback that echoed off the crystal chandeliers.

As I stepped down from the elevated DJ platform, the heavy main glass doors of the hotel ballroom swung open with a smooth, professional hiss.

Two uniformed police officers, accompanied by a senior detective from the financial crimes division, walked purposefully into the center of the room.

They bypassed the stunned wedding guests without breaking stride, their eyes locked directly on the woman in the lavish, expensive white wedding dress kneeling alone on the floor.

I didn't stop to watch them read her Miranda rights, nor did I care about the non-refundable catering deposits or the romantic honeymoon tickets waiting in a travel folder upstairs.

My work in that room was completely finished.

I turned my back on the wreckage of the ceremony, walked steadily out of the grand ballroom doors, and headed toward the quiet hotel lobby where my brother’s wife was waiting with little Noah.
