PART 3 – The Promise His Mother Left Behind

PART 3 – The Promise His Mother Left Behind

Evelyn gently squeezed Noah's hand.

"Why did you ask me to dance?"

The little boy reached into his small backpack.

He carefully removed a folded photograph.

It showed a smiling woman holding his tiny hand outside a children's hospital.

"That's my mommy."

"She loved dancing."

Evelyn smiled softly.

"Where is she now?"

Noah looked toward the ceiling.

"She's in Heaven."

The ballroom became silent once again.

"My mommy got sick."

"Before she died..."

"She told me something."

His voice grew quieter.

"She said..."

"'Whenever you meet someone who feels like giving up...'"

"'...ask them to dance.'"

"Because sometimes..."

"The first step isn't with your feet."

"It's with your heart."

Several guests quietly wiped away tears.

Noah continued.

"My mommy said..."

"Hope is contagious."

"If one person believes..."

"Sometimes another person remembers how."

Evelyn closed her eyes.

For the first time in years...

She remembered who she had been before the accident.

A dance teacher.

A wife.

A mother.

A woman who once believed anything was possible.

Maybe...

She had stopped believing long before her legs stopped responding.
