A retired Marine.

He had served overseas with a young medic named Emily Carter.
They had fallen in love.

But before Ben was born...
Daniel disappeared during a classified military mission.
The government declared him dead.
Emily never stopped believing he was alive.
She raised both children alone.
What she never knew...
Was that Daniel had survived.
He had spent four years as a prisoner before finally returning home.
When he came back...
Emily had moved.
Her phone number no longer existed.
Every trail had gone cold.
For years...
He searched.
Until the television showed one heartbreaking image.
A tiny boy holding his crying sister's hand.
Daniel froze.
The little boy looked exactly like him.
Especially the eyes.

DNA testing confirmed it.
Ben and Lily weren't alone anymore.

Ben refused to leave.
He stood beside the cardboard shelter shaking his head.
"No."
"What if Mommy comes back?"
Daniel knelt before his son.
His voice cracked.
"Buddy..."
"Mommy kept her promise."

"...to take care of you."
Ben looked at him for a long time.
