The Waitress Thought She Was Babysitting... Until The Little Girl Whispered, "I'm Not Her Sister... I'm Her Mom Now."

PART 2 – The Little Girl Who Forgot How to Be a Child
The waitress slowly sat across from the little girl.
"My name's Anna."
"What's yours, sweetheart?"
The little girl looked down.
"Emma."
"And the baby?"
"Lily."
Anna smiled.
"Your little sister?"
Emma gently stroked the baby's tiny hair.
Then she quietly shook her head.
"I don't call her my sister anymore."
Anna frowned.
"Why?"
Emma looked toward the front door once again.
Because every five minutes...
She still believed someone might walk in.
"My mommy said..."
"If she didn't come back..."
"...I had to be Lily's mommy."
The words hit Anna like a punch.
"When did she leave?"
Emma counted silently on her fingers.
"Five sleeps."
Five days.
Anna immediately noticed the diaper bag.
There wasn't one.
No spare clothes.
No formula.

Only an old baby bottle that had been washed so many times the markings had almost disappeared.
"Have you eaten today?"
Emma smiled politely.
"I'm not hungry."
At that exact moment...
Her stomach growled loudly.
Anna ordered pancakes.
Soup.
Warm milk.
Emma immediately pushed everything toward the baby.
"Lily eats first."
Anna felt tears burning behind her eyes.
"Sweetheart..."
"What about you?"
Emma shrugged.
"I'm big."
"Mommy always fed Lily first."
"So now..."
"I do too."
Anna quietly walked into the kitchen.
By the time she returned...
Half the restaurant staff were crying.
No child should know that kind of sacrifice.
Then Anna asked the question no one wanted to ask.
"Where's your daddy?"
Emma stared silently at the table.

Then whispered,
"I don't think he knows where we are."
