PART 4: The Public Execution

PART 4: The Public Execution
Receipts speak louder than desperate tears.
At 7:15 p.m., the reception dinner had concluded, and guests were settling into their seats for the formal toasts.
Adrian and I stood near the center stage. A massive, high-definition projector screen hung behind us, originally set up to display a slideshow of our childhood photos.
Adrian took the microphone first. The room fell completely silent.
"Thank you, everyone, for being here tonight," Adrian spoke clearly into the mic. "As many of you have noticed on social media over the last hour, there has been a lot of speculation regarding the absence of our former Maid of Honor, Maren Blake."
A collective gasp rippled through the pavilion. My mother leaned forward at the head table, her brows furrowed in concern.
"Maren has taken to the internet to claim she was discarded due to my wife's 'wedding-day paranoia,'" Adrian continued, his voice calm, firm, and uncompromising. "She claims she was a loyal friend who fell victim to insecurity. But my wife is not insecure. My wife is brilliant, protective, and wise. And we believe in transparency."
I stepped up beside him, holding my own microphone.
"At 1:13 a.m. last night," I spoke, my voice echoing off the glass walls, "I stood outside Maren’s room. Instead of explaining it myself, I’ll let Maren’s own voice clear her name."
I pressed the play button on my phone, which was hooked directly into the venue’s concert-grade sound system.
The entire pavilion went dead silent as the audio recording blasted through the speakers:
“Ruin her dress, lose the rings—she doesn’t deserve him.”
“I’ve been working on him for months... Tomorrow just gives me one last chance.”
“He thinks I’m joking... He won’t after tomorrow.”
The room exploded into stunned, vocal outrage.
My mother covered her mouth in absolute shock. Several of Maren’s mutual friends in the audience looked horrified, their eyes wide as the raw, malicious audio played on loop.
Before the audio finished, Denise tapped her tablet, syncing my phone’s screen directly to the massive projector.
On the twenty-foot display, months of Maren’s unreleased text messages to Adrian appeared in high definition—line after line of flirtatious, boundary-crossing messages, followed by Adrian’s firm, repeated rejections telling her to back off and respect our relationship.
The crowd erupted.
"Oh my God," someone near the front table gasped.
"That venomous snake," another friend muttered loudly.
"Maren claimed she was a victim," I said into the microphone, my voice steady and towering over the room. "The truth is, she was a predator who mistook my kindness for weakness. Today, we didn't just get married. We cleaned house."
Adrian pulled me close, kissing my temple as the room broke into thunderous, standing applause.

Within ten minutes, guests began posting the raw video of our announcement online. By midnight, Maren’s sob story was completely incinerated, replaced by global internet condemnation as the audio clip went viral.
She had wanted a public spectacle. We gave her an execution.
