PART 6: The Interrogation of Shadows
Conspiracies unravel under billionaire spotlights.
Before Vanessa could scramble together another lie, the elevators at the end of the hall chimed softly.
The doors slid open, and two heavily armed operatives from my private security detail stepped out, flanked by local precinct detectives who had been alerted by Marcus’s legal team.
In the center of the security escort was David Park, looking pale, sweating profusely, and carrying a heavy leather portfolio stuffed with digital storage drives and paper audit trails.
“Mr. Sloane,” the lead detective greeted me, flashing his shield before stepping forward. “We received your corporate counsel's emergency evidentiary package. We’re taking Ms. Vale and Mr. Park into immediate custody for questioning regarding attempted poisoning and corporate conspiracy.”
Vanessa let out a strangled, hysterical sob as the female detective stepped up beside her and produced a pair of cold steel handcuffs.
“Don't touch me! You can't do this, I’m a major shareholder!” Vanessa shrieked, thrashing slightly as her wrists were locked behind her back. “Mason, you’ll ruin everything! You’ll destroy the company we built!”
“I built Sloane Infrastructure Group with my own hands and Claire’s unwavering support,” I said, stepping close enough for her to see the absolute contempt in my eyes. “You were just a parasite trying to hijack the host. Enjoy federal prison, Vanessa.”
She was spun around and led down the hallway toward the service elevators, her designer heels clicking frantically against the floor until the doors closed, cutting off her hysterical protests.
David Park was escorted right behind her, offering zero resistance, already cooperating with the detectives to save his own skin.
The hallway grew quiet again.
The frantic chaos of the initial emergency had faded into a cold, grim reality.
I turned away from the elevators, walked back down the corridor toward the ICU, and stopped outside Claire’s recovery window.
Inside, through the glass, I could see my wife resting peacefully, her vital signs stabilizing on the monitors as the blood filtration machine silently did its work.
The poison had failed.
