PART 4: The Surveillance Trap

PART 4: The Surveillance Trap

Billionaire infrastructure leaves nowhere to hide.

I stood up, sliding the crumpled wire transfer receipt carefully into a sterile evidence bag provided by a precautionary glove box on the wall.

If Vanessa thought she could walk into my hospital suite, orchestrate a poisoning, and cover her tracks with corporate shell companies, she fundamentally misunderstood the kind of man she was dealing with.

As the founder of Sloane Infrastructure Group, I didn't just build skyscrapers and toll roads; I built smart cities, secure logistics networks, and enterprise-grade surveillance systems.

And St. Catherine’s Medical Center’s entire private wing had been upgraded last year using my corporate security architecture.

Every hallway camera, every biometric door log, and every nurse-station terminal was integrated into an encrypted, off-site server managed by my private security team.

I pulled out my satellite phone, dialing a direct extension that bypassed public cellular networks entirely.

“Marcus,” I said the instant the line connected.

“I’m here, Boss,” Marcus’s voice came through the encrypted earpiece, crisp and alert. “We’ve been monitoring the hospital feeds since the code blue was called. You have eyes on something?”

“I’m inside Suite 402,” I replied, keeping my voice low and controlled. “Pull the high-definition corridor footage from 8:00 PM to 10:30 PM. I want every entry and exit logged, specifically focusing on anyone who approached Claire’s IV pump during the shift change.”

“Already on it, Mason,” Marcus responded, the sound of rapid keyboard typing clicking in the background. “We’ve got facial recognition algorithms cross-referencing visitor badges against hospital registry logs. Hang on... processing feed from camera hallway B.”

A pause hung in the air, heavy with tension.

“Boss,” Marcus said, his tone tightening. “You’re not going to believe this. It wasn't an outside contractor or a rogue nurse.”

“Who was it?”

“It was Vanessa Vale’s executive assistant, David Park. He used a forged medical maintenance override code to slip into the suite while Claire was resting between deliveries.”

My fists clenched so hard my fingernails bit deep into my palms.

David Park. The quiet, unassuming young man who carried Vanessa’s briefcase to every board meeting.

He was just a pawn in a much larger, deadlier game orchestrated by the woman standing outside in the hallway.
