Part 6: One Betrayal Became Many

Part 6: One Betrayal Became Many

The security footage ended.

Silence settled over the library like a heavy fog.

Alessandro stared at the frozen frame on the screen.

Vincent Romano.

Director of Estate Operations.

Eleven years of absolute loyalty.

The man who personally supervised every employee, approved maintenance requests, and reported directly to Alessandro every Monday morning.

And now...

He was calmly unplugging an emergency call box while Sophia Rossi lay unconscious only a few feet away.

"You've confirmed the timestamp?" Alessandro asked.

His security chief, Luca Ferri, nodded.

"Three different camera angles."

"No edits."

"No missing footage."

Alessandro looked at the second figure standing beneath the trees.

A woman.

She stepped forward just enough for the porch light to reveal her face.

Linda Foster.

Instead of helping...

She simply watched.

Then both of them walked away together.

Alessandro closed the tablet.

"Bring them in."

Neither man in the room asked who.

They already knew.

Forty-five minutes later...

Vincent Romano entered the mansion's conference room wearing his usual tailored gray suit.

He smiled politely.

"You wanted to see me, Boss?"

Linda stood behind him, visibly nervous but trying to appear composed.

Neither realized the room had already been locked.

Two guards quietly closed the doors.

Vincent finally noticed.

His smile faded.

"Is something wrong?"

Alessandro placed the tablet in front of him.

"Watch."

The footage began playing.

Neither Vincent nor Linda moved.

When it ended...

Vincent calmly folded his hands.

"It isn't what it looks like."

Alessandro almost laughed.

"No?"

"You disconnected an emergency phone."

"You walked away from a dying woman."

"Explain."

Vincent spoke carefully.

"The cottage phone had electrical problems."

"I was going to report it."

"And Sophia?"

"I assumed she'd gone inside."

Alessandro leaned forward.

"You assumed?"

"The same excuse everyone keeps giving me."

Linda finally broke.

"We never meant for anyone to get hurt!"

Vincent shot her a furious look.

"Be quiet."

Too late.

Alessandro stood.

Slowly.

"When Emma was washing my clothes yesterday..."

He paused.

"...she thought her mother might die because missing work would make me angry."

He looked directly into Vincent's eyes.

"Who taught my employees to fear me that much?"

No answer.

"So I'll ask differently."

"Who has been using my name..."

"...to terrorize innocent people?"

The room became painfully quiet.

Finally...

Vincent exhaled.

"You've been away more often."

"Business."

"Meetings."

"International negotiations."

"Someone had to keep discipline."

"I did what was necessary."

Alessandro's expression hardened.

"By starving employees?"

"No."

"By stealing medical funds?"

"No."

"By abandoning sick mothers?"

Vincent remained silent.

Luca entered carrying another folder.

"We searched Vincent's office."

He placed several documents on the table.

Fake disciplinary notices.

Forged termination letters.

Dozens of employee complaints...

Never delivered.

Instead...

Each one had been stamped:

RESOLVED.

None actually were.

Then came the final document.

A private accounting ledger.

Payments.

Cash withdrawals.

False maintenance invoices.

Over three million dollars missing.

Linda covered her mouth.

"I didn't know..."

Vincent turned toward her.

"You knew enough."

"I told you to sign."

"You signed."

Tears rolled down her face.

"I was scared."

"So was everyone else."

Alessandro replied quietly.

Just then...

His phone vibrated.

It was Dr. Bell.

"Boss..."

"What is it?"

"Sophia just woke up."

"She keeps asking for you."

"But there's something else."

His tone changed.

"She says she knows why Vincent wanted her gone."

Alessandro's eyes narrowed.

"What does she know?"

"She says she found financial records."

"Real ones."

"She hid copies before she got sick."

The room instantly changed.

Vincent lunged toward the conference table.

"No!"

The guards tackled him before he reached the documents.

His face had completely changed.

Gone was the calm executive.

Standing there now...

Was a desperate man whose secrets were finally collapsing.

Alessandro looked down at him coldly.

"This was never about a sick housekeeper..."

"It was about what she discovered."

And somewhere inside the hospital...

Sophia Rossi was holding the one piece of evidence powerful enough to destroy an empire of corruption that had been growing beneath Alessandro's own roof for years.
