PART 4 – The Secret Marcus Never Knew

PART 4 – The Secret Marcus Never Knew

Marcus stormed toward the bed.

"You cared more about some stranger than your own son?"

Richard closed his eyes.

"When you were born..."

"I promised myself..."

"...you would never grow up the way I did."

"But somewhere along the way..."

"I taught you to protect money..."

"...instead of people."

The old man pointed toward the wooden box.

"There are letters inside."

Marcus reluctantly opened them.

Hundreds of pages.

Every letter Eleanor had written.

Every birthday Richard had missed.

Every Christmas.

Every first day of school.

Every milestone in Samuel's life.

None had ever reached him.

At the bottom of the box rested one final document.

A confession.

Signed by Richard's own late father.

It admitted the Sterling family had bribed people...

Destroyed letters...

Threatened Eleanor...

And paid lawyers to make sure Richard never discovered he had a son.

Marcus's hands began shaking.

Everything he believed about his family collapsed in seconds.

For the first time...

He understood.

The greatest theft in the Sterling family wasn't money.

It was time.
