PART 4: The Manager’s Panic

PART 4: The Manager’s Panic
Compliant managers face sudden corporate executioners.
"I said, get her out of my sight!" Julian repeated, stamping her red-heeled shoe against the floor, her chest heaving as she pointed a manicured finger at Clara.
Arthur, the sweating general manager, practically shoved Clara toward the service exit.
"Move, girl! You've caused enough damage for one lifetime," Arthur hissed under his breath, terrified of losing his lucrative hotel contract with the Vance family.
Clara didn't fight back physically.
She offered one last, deeply pitying look toward elderly Evelyn, who was sitting in her wheelchair with tears welling up in her cloudy, frightened eyes.
"I'm sorry I couldn't help you more, ma'am," Clara said softly, her voice carrying a profound warmth.
Before Arthur could push Clara through the swinging doors, a deep, resonant voice cut through the ambient ballroom noise like a cold knife.
"Touch her again, Arthur, and you won't just be fired—you'll never work in commercial hospitality anywhere on this continent."
The entire ballroom froze.
It wasn't a shout.
It was a quiet, measured statement delivered with absolute, crushing authority.
Arthur stopped dead in his tracks, his hand still clamped around Clara's uniform sleeve.
He turned his head slowly toward the source of the voice, expecting to see a corporate board member or an irate investor.
Instead, out from the deep shadows of the Corinthian pillars stepped Harrison Vance.
The temperature in the room seemed to drop twenty degrees instantly.
Every senior executive, politician, and socialite who recognized the billionaire’s face involuntarily sucked in a sharp breath.
Harrison Vance rarely showed his face at public family functions, but his reputation as an unforgiving corporate titan was legendary.
Julian’s aggressive scowl instantly melted into a bright, fawning smile as she spotted her powerful cousin approaching.
"Harrison! Oh, thank goodness you're here!" Julian purred, immediately dropping Clara's arm and rushing over to wrap a hand around Harrison's tailored sleeve, batting her eyelashes with practiced coyness. "You won't believe what happened. This insolent little maid deliberately smashed a crystal glass on my dress and then insulted our family name! Arthur was just throwing her out."
Harrison didn't look at Julian.
His piercing gray eyes remained locked entirely on Arthur’s hand, which was still awkwardly gripping Clara’s white uniform sleeve.
"Arthur," Harrison said quietly, taking another slow step forward. "I believe I gave you an instruction."
Arthur’s face turned the color of stale porridge.
With trembling, panicked fingers, the general manager released Clara's arm as if he had just touched a live electrical wire.

"Mr... Mr. Vance! I didn't know—she was causing a disturbance—Miss Vance demanded—"
"Miss Vance," Harrison interrupted, his voice dripping with thinly veiled contempt as he finally turned his gaze toward Julian, "doesn't own this hotel. I do."
