My stepmother ruined her own dress, fell down the stairs, and framed me, unaware that I survived the accident thanks to her secret audio recording.

My stepmother ruined her own gown, threw herself down the stairs, and framed me for murder, unaware I survived the crash with her secret tape.

I stood by the doorway, bleeding from my lip, clutching a shattered smartphone to my chest.

My father rushed through the front doors, his eyes blazing with fury as Veronica sobbed hysterically on the marble floor. She pointed a shaking finger at me, claiming I tried to push her to her death.

Before my father could disown me and throw me out forever, I unlocked my cracked screen and played the video of Veronica kissing his best friend.

Part 2

A father’s fury shattered in seconds.

The grandeur of the Oakridge Estate living room felt suffocating under the heavy silence that followed the audio from the phone. Rain lashed violently against the floor-to-ceiling glass windows, matching the storm brewing inside my father’s heart.

Just ten seconds ago, David Harrison—a man whose single word could collapse multimillion-dollar companies—was roaring at me like a wounded beast. He had stepped protectively in front of Veronica, his new wife of two years, treating me like a cold-blooded monster who had just tried to push her stepmother down a flight of marble stairs.

Veronica lay on the floor at the base of the staircase, her silk ivory evening gown torn strategically at the shoulder. Her dark mascara bled down her cheeks in artistic trails of grief. "David, please!" she gasped, her voice trembling with manufactured terror. "Get her away from me! She pushed me... She told me she wanted me dead so she could have your fortune!"

My father turned to me, his face crimson, his fists clenched so tightly his knuckles turned chalk white. "You malicious little brat!" he roared, his voice shaking the crystal wall sconces. "I gave you a roof over your head after your mother passed! I gave you everything! And this is how you repay me? By trying to murder my wife in cold blood?!"

I didn't flinch. I didn't cry.

For three months, I had endured Veronica's passive-aggressive insults, her quiet sabotage of my schoolwork, and her subtle efforts to erase every memory of my late mother from this house. But tonight, she had crossed a line that could never be uncrossed.

Three hours ago, she had hired two men to force my car off the mountain road. I was supposed to die in that ravine. I was supposed to be a tragic accident. But I crawled out of that crumpled sedan, bruised, bleeding from my lip, and clutching the one thing her hitmen couldn't find—my old, shattered smartphone.

I held the cracked screen up toward my father's face, my fingers steady despite the pain radiating through my ribs.

"Look at your wife's true face before you throw me out, Dad," I said. My voice wasn't loud, but it cut through the room like a razor through silk.

David blinked, his bloodshot eyes shifting from my bruised face down to the glowing, spiderwebbed screen of the phone.

The high-definition video began to play. The audio was crystal clear, ringing through the vast living room. On the screen, illuminated by the dim lights of an underground parking garage, was Veronica. She wasn't weeping. She wasn't helpless. She was wrapped around a man in a tailored suit, kissing him passionately against the hood of a sleek sports car.

The man in the video turned his face toward the camera. It was Marcus Sterling—my father's lifelong best friend and the Chief Financial Officer of Harrison Enterprises.

"You're a genius, babe," Marcus's recorded voice echoed clearly from the phone speaker. "Once David signs the revised trust fund documents tomorrow, we'll push the girl out of the picture. Half the company will be yours, and the rest comes to me."

"I can't wait," Veronica's voice giggled on the tape. "He actually thinks I love him. The old fool buys every tear I shed."

The silence that fell over the room after the video paused was deafening.

David stood frozen. The color drained from his face at a terrifying speed, leaving him looking hollow, old, and completely broken. The veins on his neck bulged as he stared at the screen, processing the ultimate double betrayal by the two people he trusted most in the world.

Veronica’s fake weeping stopped instantly.

She looked up from the floor, her eyes wide with a horror so real it paled in comparison to her previous act. Her pupils dilated, her mouth gaped open, and her breath hitched in her throat. The arrogant, triumphant smirk she had worn just moments ago turned into pale, trembling terror.

"David..." Veronica gasped, her voice now a hollow, desperate whisper. "David, wait... Please! That’s... that’s an AI fake! She made it to destroy us! I love you!"

Part 3

The mask tears off completely.

David slowly lowered his arm. His breath came in ragged, heavy hitches as he stared down at the woman he had married in a lavish ceremony in Paris just eighteen months ago. The man who had faced cutthroat corporate battles without flinching was now trembling from head to toe.

"An AI fake?" David’s voice was dangerously low, a quiet purr before an explosion.

He stepped over the torn silk of her gown, dropping to one knee beside her. For a brief second, Veronica thought he was going to comfort her. She reached out her manicured hands, tears spilling over her eyelashes. "Yes, darling! You know how smart Maya is with computers! She fabricated it because she hates me!"

David grabbed her wrists in a grip of pure steel. The gentle husband was gone; in his place stood the ruthless tycoon who had built a corporate empire from nothing.

"The parking garage of the Grand Hyatt," David whispered, his eyes locked onto hers with a lethal intensity. "Section B-4. That’s Marcus’s private spot. The wristwatch on his arm in that video is the limited-edition Patek Philippe I gave him for his fiftieth birthday last month. Only three exist in the country."

Veronica choked on her breath. Her lips trembled, but no words came out.

"Did you really think I was that blind?" David roared, his voice finally exploding with the full force of his fury. He threw her hands away so hard she collapsed onto her side against the marble floor. "I gave you my home! I gave you my name! I brought you into my family after my wife died, and you brought a snake into my bed!"

"David, please!" Veronica scrambled onto her knees, grabbing the edge of his suit jacket. "It was Marcus! He seduced me! He threatened to tell you I had credit card debt if I didn't go along with his plan! I was terrified!"

I took a slow step forward, holding the cracked phone tightly. "She's lying, Dad."

David turned to look at me, his eyes filled with a mixture of immense shame and heartbreak. "Maya... your face... your lip..."

"Her hitmen forced my car off Route 9 an hour ago," I said calmly, letting the words sink into the room. "They thought I was dead in the ravine. But before they left, they talked. They mentioned the offshore account Marcus set up for Veronica in the Cayman Islands. Check her personal safe in the study, Dad. The transfer receipts are inside a blue velvet box."

Veronica’s face went entirely ghost white. She stared at me as if looking at a dead person walking. "You... you were supposed to be..." She clapped her hands over her mouth, realizing she had almost confessed to a crime in front of my father.

David stood up slowly, looking down at her with pure disgust. The realization that his wife hadn't just cheated on him, but had attempted to murder his only daughter, shattered whatever remaining composure he possessed.

"You tried to kill my child," David said, his voice terrifyingly calm.

He pulled his smartphone from his pocket, his thumb gliding across the screen without hesitation. He didn't call his lawyer. He didn't call his publicist.

He dialed the direct line to the Commissioner of Police.

"Chief Miller," David said into the receiver, his voice echoing cold and hard through the vast mansion. "This is David Harrison. I need an armed unit and a forensic team at my residence immediately. I am filing charges for attempted murder, conspiracy, and grand extortion against my wife, Veronica Harrison, and my CFO, Marcus Sterling."

"No! David, no!" Veronica shrieked, lunging forward to grab his legs. "Don't do this! You'll ruin everything! Think of the company's stock! Think of the press!"

David kicked his leg free from her grasp with cold detachment. "The press will be the least of your concerns, Veronica. Because I am going to spend every single dollar I own to ensure you rot in a federal cell for the rest of your life."
