Part 3 — The Recording Olivia Buried

Part 3 — The Recording Olivia Buried
That night…
After the triplets had finally fallen asleep, I locked every door in our apartment.
Then I opened the encrypted folder I hadn't touched in nearly five years.
Inside sat a single audio file.
Olivia_Final_Call.mp3
I pressed Play.
Static filled the room.
Then came my own exhausted voice.
"Sebastian... please answer."
"I've been in labor for nineteen hours."
"The babies are coming early."
"They need you."
A long silence followed.
Then another voice entered.
Olivia.
Not Sebastian.
"I'll handle this."
My heart still pounded hearing it again.
Five years hadn't erased a single word.
"I know who this is," Olivia said calmly.
"You really should stop calling."
"I need to speak to my husband."
A soft laugh.
"He isn't your husband anymore."
"He doesn't even know you're in the hospital."
"He will."
"No."
There was complete certainty in her voice.
"I'm deleting every message."
"He'll never hear your voicemail."
"He'll never see your emails."
"And those babies..."
Another pause.
"They're better off never knowing him."
The recording ended with something I had never forgotten.
A clicking sound.
The unmistakable click of my voicemail being permanently deleted.
I closed my eyes.
That single recording had cost me five years of silence.
But tonight...
It might finally give my children the truth.
At exactly 7:15 the next morning...
Someone knocked on my apartment door.
Three slow knocks.
Not aggressive.
Not impatient.
I looked through the peephole.
Sebastian stood alone.
No security.
No assistants.
No expensive suit.
Just jeans...
A wrinkled button-down shirt...
And dark circles beneath his eyes.
He looked older.
Broken somehow.
I opened the door only a few inches.
"What do you want?"
"I didn't sleep."
His voice sounded hoarse.
"I went through every email archive I still had."
"Every old backup."
"And Hannah..."
He swallowed.
"There are huge gaps."
"What gaps?"
"My voicemail history."
"My email logs."
"Entire weeks disappeared."
I said nothing.
Because I already knew why.
He looked directly at me.
"I think someone erased them."
Before I could answer...
A black SUV stopped across the street.
Then another.
Then another.
I recognized the Carter family crest immediately.
Sebastian noticed them too.
His expression changed instantly.
"My mother."
The rear passenger door opened.
Margaret Carter stepped onto the sidewalk wearing a flawless cream-colored suit.
She looked exactly the same as five years ago.
Elegant.
Powerful.
Completely convinced she controlled every situation.
Behind her walked Olivia.
She wasn't smiling anymore.
Margaret approached as though she owned the building.
"Hannah."
She nodded politely.
"I believe you've caused enough confusion."
Sebastian frowned.
"Mother..."
She ignored him completely.
Instead...
She handed me a thick envelope.
Inside...
Three cashier's checks.
Each worth more money than I'd ever imagined.
"We're prepared to resolve this quietly."
I looked back up.
"What exactly are you buying?"
"The children's future."
"No."
"Your silence."
The street became perfectly quiet.
Sebastian stared at his mother.
"What are you talking about?"
Margaret finally looked at her son.
"They aren't your concern."
His face slowly hardened.
"They might be my children."
Olivia grabbed his arm.
"Sebastian..."
"Please..."
"We can still fix this."
He pulled away.
"No."
He looked directly at me.
"Hannah..."
"I need to know the truth."
For several long seconds...
Nobody moved.
Then I reached into my purse.
Removed my phone.
Opened the audio recording.
Olivia's face instantly turned white.
"Hannah..."
"Don't."
Too late.
I pressed Play.
The first words echoed across the silent street.
"I'm deleting every message..."
Olivia stumbled backward.
Margaret's confidence disappeared.
Sebastian stood completely frozen.
As the recording continued...
His hands slowly began to shake.
And by the time Olivia whispered—
"Those babies are better off never knowing him."
May you like
Sebastian looked at his fiancée...
As though he had never truly seen her before.
