PART 4 — The Chairman Reveals Himself

PART 4 — The Chairman Reveals Himself

Daniel smiled.

Then he pressed the button on the remote.

Click.

Nothing happened.

For half a second, everyone froze.

Then—

BOOM!

The black SUV behind him exploded into a massive fireball.

The blast shattered windows across the street and knocked Daniel to the ground. Flames shot thirty feet into the air as smoke swallowed the driveway.

Neighbors screamed.

Federal agents rushed forward, dragging Ethan and Mia away from the front entrance in case there were more explosives.

Liam cried from upstairs.

"MOMMY!"

Ethan broke free from an agent's grip and sprinted inside the house. Seconds later, he emerged carrying Liam in his arms just as firefighters began surrounding the burning vehicle.

Daniel lay bleeding on the pavement.

One of his legs had been badly injured by the explosion.

Agent Collins knelt beside him.

"Call an ambulance!"

Daniel suddenly laughed.

It wasn't the laugh of a man in pain.

It was the laugh of someone who knew he had already won.

"You still don't understand," he whispered through blood.

"You think... I was trying to kill you."

He coughed violently.

"No..."

"I was destroying evidence."

The SUV burned hotter by the second.

Every laptop.

Every document.

Every phone inside it was turning to ash.

Agent Collins cursed under his breath.

Daniel smiled again.

"The Chairman... always cleans up."

Before anyone could question him further...

A sniper's bullet shattered the silence.

CRACK!

Daniel jerked violently.

The smile froze on his face forever.

Chaos erupted.

"SHOTS FIRED!"

"TAKE COVER!"

Agents pulled Ethan, Mia, and Liam behind armored vehicles as helicopters roared overhead.

The sniper vanished before anyone could locate the position.

Agent Collins stared at Daniel's body.

"He was executed."

Mia closed her eyes.

"I told you..."

"They never leave witnesses."

Two hours later...

The FBI command center had been established inside a nearby school gymnasium.

Dozens of agents studied maps, surveillance footage, and financial records recovered from Daniel's office.

Ethan sat beside Mia while doctors treated the bruises on her wrists.

She hadn't stopped shaking.

Not from fear.

From memory.

Finally, Agent Collins returned carrying a burned metal case recovered from the SUV.

"One thing survived."

Inside...

A partially melted hard drive.

Forensic technicians immediately began recovering its contents.

Everyone watched the monitor.

One damaged video file opened.

The image flickered.

A man sat in complete darkness.

Only his hands were visible.

Elegant.

Older.

Expensive watch.

His voice was calm.

"If you're watching this..."

"...Daniel has failed."

Mia gasped.

"I know that voice."

The room became silent.

"The Chairman?"

She nodded slowly.

"I heard him almost every day."

The man continued speaking.

"There are many organizations that believe power comes from money."

He chuckled softly.

"They're wrong."

"Power comes from controlling people no one knows are missing."

The screen switched.

Photos appeared.

Missing journalists.

Judges.

Business executives.

Politicians.

More than sixty people.

Some had disappeared over the last twenty years.

Others...

Had officially died.

Yet surveillance images showed them alive inside the same underground compound where Mia had been held.

Ethan stared in disbelief.

"This isn't kidnapping."

Agent Collins answered quietly.

"No."

"This is a private prison."

The final image appeared.

A photograph taken at a charity gala.

Standing beside Daniel...

Beside Harrison...

Beside several politicians...

Was one familiar face.

Ethan nearly stopped breathing.

"No..."

Mia covered her mouth.

"It can't be..."

The Chairman wasn't a crime boss.

He wasn't a billionaire.

He wasn't some mysterious stranger hiding overseas.

He was Senator William Prescott...

The man who had led national campaigns against organized crime for nearly fifteen years.

The man America called a hero.

At that exact moment, every television inside the command center switched to breaking news.

A smiling Senator Prescott stood behind a podium in Washington.

"...and I promise the American people..."

He smiled warmly at the cameras.

"...justice will always prevail."

May you like

Mia whispered only four words.

"He knows we're alive."
