PART 4: The Dismantling of a Parasite

PART 4: The Dismantling of a Parasite

Financial execution leaves no escape.

I sat in stunned silence as Vincent’s words settled deep into my bones, realizing that the thread connecting my mother’s quiet compassion two decades ago had reached across time to pull me out of a nightmare.

“What about Derek?” I asked after a long moment, wiping a stray tear from my cheek. “What happened to him after your men took him out of the apartment?”

Vincent’s mouth curved into a cold, humorless smile that completely transformed his handsome features into something terrifyingly lethal.

“Derek is currently learning the geographic layout of rural Nevada via Greyhound bus,” Vincent replied smoothly, picking up a silver pen from the bedside table and rolling it between his fingers. “His corporate debt has been consolidated under our shell company mortgages, his personal bank accounts are permanently frozen under federal audit suspicion, and an unalterable restraining order has been filed across three states.”

He tossed the pen back onto the table with a soft clack.

“He tried to threaten my men while they were breaking his wrists. By sunrise, his business partners had received full financial disclosures detailing his Embezzlement of client funds over the past two years. He doesn't have a job, he doesn't have a bank account, and he doesn't have a home in the state of New York. If he ever crosses the state line again, he won't see a courtroom—he’ll see the bottom of the East River.”

I shivered involuntarily, not out of fear, but from the sheer, staggering magnitude of power he wielded on my behalf.

“You didn't have to ruin him financially,” I murmured, looking down at the bedsheets.

“He broke your bones, Lena,” Vincent said, his voice dropping into a register of cold, absolute finality. “In my world, men who destroy things that don't belong to them forfeit everything they own. You spent five years making yourself small to accommodate a parasite. It’s time you realized that you are connected to royalty in this city.”

He stood up from the chair, smoothing down the lapels of his navy suit.

“Rest today, Lena. Tomorrow, we start building something that can never be torn down.”
