PART 7: A New Dynasty Rises

PART 7: A New Dynasty Rises

Unbroken family bonds defeat ancient tyrants.

Arthur Vance didn't stand up, but his posture radiated the terrifying, calcified authority of a man who had built a multi-billion-dollar empire on absolute obedience and fear.

“So,” Arthur rasped, his voice like dry autumn leaves scraping across pavement. “This is the stray your mother managed to hide from us all these years.”

Before Liam or Julian could step forward with a sharp retort, I took two steps out from the protective circle of my brothers and looked our grandfather dead in the eye.

“My name is Summer Davis,” I said, my voice ringing clear and steady across the silent lounge. “And I am not a stray. I am a Vance—the daughter of the woman you tried to erase.”

Arthur’s gray eyebrows arched in mild surprise, studying me with cold, calculating interest.

“Spoken with quite a bit of fire,” Arthur noted dryly. “You have your mother’s stubbornness. It was her most expensive flaw.”

“Her flaw was loving her children more than your money,” Liam cut in, stepping up beside me, his tone dripping with lethal corporate ice. “And if you came here today thinking you could issue ultimatums, buy her off, or test our loyalty, you wasted your trip, Arthur.”

“I didn't come to buy her off, Liam,” Arthur said slowly, resting both hands on the handle of his cane. “I came to offer a seat at the table. The Vance family doesn't scatter its blood to the wind. Now that she bears our name publicly, she needs proper grooming, proper security, and proper placement within the corporate trust.”

I looked at my grandfather, then glanced sideways at my brothers.

Liam was watching me, letting me know that the final decision was entirely mine—no pressure, no corporate obligations, just pure family choice.

I turned back to Arthur Vance, offering a small, confident smile that mirrored the resilience of the mother who had raised me in a leaky trailer while carrying the memory of three stolen sons.

“Thank you for the offer, Grandfather,” I said smoothly. “But I already have a venture capital mogul, a Hollywood star, and a professional gamer to look after my grooming. And as for my placement... I think I’ll stick to my plaid tote bag and my own path.”

Arthur stared at me for a long, silent moment.

Then, astonishingly, the corner of his thin mouth twitched upward into a ghost of a smile.

“Stubborn,” he repeated softly, standing up slowly with the help of his cane. “Indeed, quite stubborn.”

He turned and walked toward the private exit, his security detail falling in step behind him without another word.

The shadow of the past had finally been confronted and put to rest.

As we rode the elevator back up to the penthouse, surrounded by the city lights stretching out beneath our feet, Julian threw an arm around my shoulders, Leo tossed me a gaming controller, and Liam handed me a cup of hot tea.

I came to Los Angeles looking for three brothers I had only ever known as names on a crumpled slip of paper.

Instead, I found an unbreakable army, a home among the stars, and a family that would never, ever let me go.
