PART 3 – The DNA Test Confirmed the Truth… But Someone Else Wanted the Bracelet First
The landlord's face turned pale as six black SUVs surrounded the supermarket entrance.
Men in tailored black suits stepped inside with quiet precision, each wearing an earpiece and moving with military discipline. Customers instinctively backed away, unsure whether they were witnessing a corporate security team—or something far more powerful.
Richard Ashford didn't raise his voice.
He didn't need to.
"Remove him," he said calmly.
Two security officers immediately stepped toward the landlord.
"Wait!" the man shouted, suddenly losing every ounce of confidence. "This is a misunderstanding! She owes me rent!"
Richard looked at him as though he were invisible.
"My attorneys can verify whether she owes you money."
He paused.
"But shoving a woman holding a hungry child inside a supermarket?"
His eyes hardened.
"That is assault."
The landlord tried to pull away.
"I didn't—"
Before he could finish, a police officer entered through the front doors.
One of the supermarket employees had already called 911 when the confrontation began.
Several customers immediately stepped forward.
"I saw him push her."
"He grabbed the stroller."
"He threatened her."
Within minutes, the landlord was standing in handcuffs, shouting that everyone had misunderstood.
Emily simply stared.
Twenty minutes earlier she couldn't afford a carton of milk.
Now the man who had terrorized her for months was being led away by police.
Nothing felt real.
Richard bent down beside Noah's stroller.
He kept a respectful distance.
"May I?"
Emily hesitated before nodding.
Richard gently tucked the blanket around the sleeping baby.
Tears filled his eyes.
"He looks just like..."
He stopped himself.
"My wife always wanted grandchildren."
Emily's voice remained cautious.
"You still think I'm your daughter."
"I think there's enough evidence that we need answers."
He carefully picked the silver bracelet up from the supermarket floor and handed it back to her.
"I don't want you to trust me."
"I want you to trust science."
Thirty minutes later, they sat inside a private medical laboratory owned by Ashford Medical Group.
Emily had refused to ride in Richard's limousine.
Instead, she followed behind in a taxi Richard paid for.
It made her feel safer.
Dr. Helen Brooks greeted them personally.
"I've already prepared everything."
Emily frowned.
"So quickly?"
Richard answered quietly.
"This laboratory performs emergency DNA testing for missing-person investigations."
The nurse gently swabbed the inside of Emily's cheek.
Then Richard's.
"It'll take about ninety minutes," Dr. Brooks explained.
Ninety minutes.
Emily thought ninety minutes couldn't possibly change an entire life.
She was wrong.
While they waited, Richard offered her tea.
She declined.
Then coffee.
She declined again.
Finally...
He asked the question he'd wanted to ask since seeing the bracelet.
"What do you remember about your mother?"
Emily looked down.
"Not much."
"She worked two jobs."
"We moved constantly."
"She never let anyone photograph us."
Richard frowned.
"Never?"
Emily shook her head.
"She used to burn old photographs."
"Whenever I asked why..."
Emily's voice softened.
"She'd say..."
"'Some people are still looking for us.'"
Richard's heart nearly stopped.
Looking.
Not hiding.
Looking.
She had been waiting.
Waiting for someone to recognize the bracelet.
Waiting for the promise she'd made to finally come true.
"What happened to her?"
Emily's eyes filled with tears.
"Cancer."
"I was eleven."
"She died three months after the diagnosis."
Richard slowly closed his eyes.
He had searched for nearly three decades.
Yet the woman who might have held every answer had died seventeen years earlier.
Without ever telling anyone.
An hour later...
Dr. Brooks returned carrying a sealed envelope.
Her normally composed face betrayed genuine emotion.
She handed the results directly to Richard.
His hands shook too violently to open them.
Emily finally reached forward.
"I'll do it."
She unfolded the report.
The room became silent.
Her eyes moved across the page.
Probability of biological relationship...
99.99998%.
She stopped breathing.
Richard whispered...
"What does it say?"
Emily looked up.
Her lips trembled.
"It says..."
"...you're my father."
For several seconds...
Neither of them moved.
Then Richard slowly covered his face.
A broken sob escaped his chest.
Twenty-eight years.
Twenty-eight birthdays.
Twenty-eight Christmas mornings.
Twenty-eight years believing one daughter had died.
Only to discover...
She had been alive all along.
Emily didn't know what to feel.
Joy.
Shock.
Relief.
Anger.
She had found her father.
But she had also lost twenty-eight years with him.
Richard carefully stepped closer.
"If..."
"If you're comfortable..."
"...may I hug you?"
Emily stared at him.
Every instinct told her to protect herself.
But another feeling...
One she'd never experienced before...
Made her nod.
Richard wrapped his arms around her gently.
Not tightly.
Not possessively.
Like a man afraid she might disappear again.
For the first time since her mother died...
Emily cried in someone's embrace.
The reunion lasted only a few minutes.
Because suddenly...
Richard's phone rang.
His chief of security.
Richard answered immediately.
"What is it?"
The man's voice came through the speaker.
"Sir..."
"You need to come home."
Richard frowned.
"What happened?"
"It's Miss Olivia."
Emily looked up.
"Who's Olivia?"
Richard swallowed.
"My daughter."
"Your..."
He paused.
"...your twin sister."
Emily froze.
"I have..."
"...a sister?"
Richard nodded slowly.
"She survived."
"But..."
His expression darkened.
"The moment she heard about the DNA results..."
"...she disappeared."
The security chief continued.
"We found her bedroom empty."
"One window was open."
"And..."
"There was a note."
Richard's face lost all color.
"What note?"
The security chief read it aloud.
"If she's really your daughter... then I'm no longer your family."
The call disconnected.
Emily stared at her newly found father.
Only hours ago...
She didn't know he existed.
Now she had discovered she had a twin sister.
May you like
A sister who had vanished...
The very moment she learned Emily had come home.
