Part 7: Healing the wounds of time.

Part 7: Healing the wounds of time.

Six months after the drama in the boardroom, a peaceful stillness had returned to the Bennett Estate.

Richard Bennett had been sentenced to twelve years in federal prison for fraud, embezzlement, and conspiracy. Gavin Vance was blacklisted from the hospitality industry and faced civil lawsuits that left him bankrupt.

But inside the Bennett home, the focus was not on revenge, but on healing.

Leo had transformed over the months. The thin, terrified boy who had cringed at raised voices was now a healthy, bright eight-year-old with a warm smile and an insatiable curiosity about the world. He attended a prestigious private school, excelled in his studies, and spent his afternoons learning how to ride horses on the estate grounds.

Yet, despite his new life of unimaginable wealth, Leo never forgot where he came from.

On a warm autumn afternoon, Arthur sat on the porch, watching Leo build a small wooden birdhouse on the lawn. Beside Arthur sat a framed photograph—not just of Julian, but a new family portrait showing Arthur, Leo, and a restored painting of Clara.

Leo ran up the porch steps, holding the wooden birdhouse proudly. "Look, Grandpa! I finished it!"

"It’s wonderful, Leo," Arthur smiled, pulling the boy onto his lap. "Where are we going to put it?"

"On the big oak tree near the gate," Leo said brightly. "So the birds always have a home when they're cold."

Arthur’s heart swelled with pride. Despite everything the child had suffered, his heart remained pure, untouched by bitterness or greed.

"Grandpa?" Leo asked softly, looking up into Arthur's eyes.

"Yes, my boy?"

"Do you think Mom and Dad can see us?" Leo touched the copper key, which he still wore every single day under his shirt.

Arthur wrapped his arms tightly around his grandson, looking up at the clear blue sky. "I know they can, Leo. And I know they are prouder of you than words can ever say."
