PART 3 – The Letter No Child Should Ever Carry

Lisa unfolded the rain-soaked letter.

My name is Rachel Evans.

If someone finds my son...

Please forgive me.

I never wanted him to be alone.

Rachel explained she had been diagnosed with terminal heart failure months earlier.

Unable to work...

Unable to pay rent...

She had hidden the truth from Mason.

Three days earlier...

She collapsed while walking to the community shelter.

Before the ambulance doors closed...

She pointed toward Greenfield Park.

"Wait there."

"I'll come back before it gets dark."

She believed she would survive.

She didn't.

The hospital had admitted her as an unidentified patient because her purse had been stolen.

She passed away without anyone knowing she had a little boy waiting in the park.

Lisa couldn't stop crying.

That evening...
