Billionaire adoption lawyers secure permanent family bonds.

By Tuesday afternoon, our La Jolla estate had transformed into a high-powered legal war room.

Marcus Vance, Eric’s fiercely protective general counsel and the top family law litigator on the West Coast, sat across from us in the sunlit living room, reviewing a thick stack of certified documents forwarded directly from the probate court in Akron, Ohio.

Leo was resting peacefully in a bassinet beside the sofa, completely oblivious to the fact that his future was currently being secured by a team of corporate attorneys.

"The Ohio caseworkers are playing hardball," Marcus stated, adjusting his glasses as he scanned a highlighted clause on page four. "They acknowledge that Eric is the biological uncle, but because he lacks an established legal pre-existing relationship with the child and because the interstate compact for placement hasn't been formally processed, they initially recommended temporary state custody until a home study is completed."

Eric’s jaw clenched instantly, a dangerous glint flashing in his gray eyes.

"State custody? Over my dead body. Tell them I'll buy the entire county social services department if I have to."

"Put the checkbook away, boss," Marcus smirked, leaning back in his leather chair. "We aren't going to war with them; we're going to overwhelm them with superior jurisdiction."

I leaned forward, resting my elbows on my knees. "What does that mean, Marcus?"

"It means we bypassed the local Ohio caseworkers this morning," Marcus explained smoothly. "I filed an emergency petition for permanent guardianship and immediate medical power of attorney directly through the California Superior Court, utilizing our primary residency status and establishing that Leo was voluntarily surrendered to his legal next-of-kin under emergency exigent circumstances."

He slid a stamped court document across the coffee table toward us.

"A California judge just signed off on the temporary injunction ten minutes ago. Legally speaking, as of right now, Leo is safely under our roof, and any Ohio agency trying to remove him will have to fight a federal interstate custody battle against Whitaker Software's legal division."

I let out a breath I didn't realize I had been holding, a wave of profound gratitude washing over me.

"Thank you, Marcus," I said sincerely.

"Don't thank me yet," Marcus chuckled, standing up and gathering his briefcase. "The judge scheduled our final adoption and guardianship confirmation hearing for next month. You guys better start brushing up on your diaper-changing skills, because the state is going to send a court-appointed evaluator to inspect that nursery with a magnifying glass."

"Let them inspect it," Eric said, standing up and walking over to the bassinet to gently stroke Leo’s tiny hand. "It's the best damn nursery in San Diego."
