PART 5 – The Home He Never Stopped Looking For

PART 5 – The Home He Never Stopped Looking For

One year later...

The Ashford mansion sounded different.

Children's laughter echoed through hallways once filled only with silence.

Ethan's room overlooked a beautiful garden.

But every night before bed...

He still asked the same question.

"Mom..."

"You won't disappear again... right?"

Victoria would smile.

Sit beside him.

And hold him until he fell asleep.

"Never again."

The criminal trial lasted six weeks.

Richard Ashford was convicted of child trafficking, conspiracy, fraud, and kidnapping.

The hospital officials involved lost their licenses.

Several members of the trafficking network received lengthy prison sentences.

Victoria used a large portion of her inheritance to establish Ethan's Promise Foundation, helping families locate children separated through trafficking and illegal adoptions.

At the entrance of the foundation stood a bronze sculpture.

A little boy reaching toward his mother.

Their fingertips almost touching.

Beneath it were the words:

"No amount of wealth can replace the years stolen between a mother and her child."

Years later, a reporter asked Ethan what he remembered most about that night at the ballroom.

He smiled quietly.

"It wasn't the diamonds."

"It wasn't the rich people."

"It wasn't even the food."

"It was the moment my mom looked at me..."

"...like she'd been searching for me every single day."

"And for the first time in my life..."

May you like

"...I knew I had finally found home."

The End.
