PART 3: My Son Whispered, “Dad… She Took Emily’s Eyes.”

The missing medical file haunted me all night.

At sunrise, I drove to the hospital where Emily had been born.

The records department informed me that someone had requested copies of Emily's neonatal records three years earlier.

The signature on the authorization stunned me.

It wasn't mine.

It wasn't the hospital's attorney.

It was Vanessa's.

The clerk quietly added,

"She specifically asked us to destroy the original ophthalmology consultation after receiving the replacement file."

Destroy it?

Hospitals never destroyed original records without extraordinary legal procedures.

Something was terribly wrong.

Detective Laura Bennett agreed to review the case.

Together we located the retired neonatal ophthalmologist who had examined Emily minutes after birth.

He opened an old storage box inside his garage.

Among faded files lay a handwritten note.

"Infant's eyes healthy upon initial examination."

Healthy.

I read the sentence over and over.

The doctor looked at me with tears in his eyes.

"I've wondered for years why nobody called me back."

May you like

"My report disappeared."

The investigation had officially begun.
