PART 4: The Legal Counter-Offensive

PART 4: The Legal Counter-Offensive
High-priced attorneys issue harsh reality checks.
By Wednesday morning, my parents had evidently scraped together enough remaining cash to hire a local civil litigator, hoping to intimidate me into a quick settlement.
Mr. Sterling called me at my desk around 10:00 AM, chuckling softly over the secure line.
"Well, Jenna, your parents' attorney just tried to file an emergency injunction claiming elder abuse and coerced inheritance transfer," Mr. Sterling said smoothly.
"Did it hold up?" I asked, sipping my coffee.
"Not for ten seconds," the attorney laughed. "I sent over Grandma Eleanor’s notarized video depositions, the complete medical and psychiatric evaluations proving her full testamentary capacity, and your comprehensive audio-visual evidence package documenting months of harassment."
Mr. Sterling paused, shuffling a few papers on his end.
"The judge took one look at the footage of your sister pouring wine over your head while screaming that you had until morning to leave, and he threw their petition out of court with prejudice. They’ve been slapped with a permanent restraining order preventing them from coming within five hundred yards of this property."
A profound sense of relief washed over my shoulders.
The legal battle they thought they could bully their way through had been decisively crushed before it even began.
"Thank you, Mr. Sterling," I murmured. "Grandma really thought of everything, didn't she?"
"Eleanor was a brilliant, sharp woman," Mr. Sterling replied warmly. "She loved you fiercely, Jenna. She spent the last three years of her life making sure you would never have to bow your head to anyone in that family again."
I looked out the window toward the manicured gardens where Grandma Eleanor used to sit reading her horticulture books.
