PART 7: Standing Tall in the Sun

PART 7: Standing Tall in the Sun

Unshakable bonds conquer every dark night.

Looking back at that canceled flight, I often wondered how different things would have been if my plane to London hadn't encountered mechanical failure.

I would have been thousands of miles away while my pregnant wife was beaten and blackmailed in our own home.

I would have returned days later to a carefully constructed lie about a robbery gone wrong, walking right back into the trap my mother had spent months setting.

Fate, it seemed, had other plans.

A canceled flight had sent me home at 1:47 a.m. into the middle of a nightmare, turning what should have been a tragic blindside into a decisive victory for truth and justice.

I walked across the green lawn, stepping up beside Irene as she pruned a stray stem from a blooming red rose.

She turned her head, looking up at me with those familiar, beautiful eyes, and offered a radiant, unburdened smile.

I wrapped my arms securely around her waist, pulling her close, resting my hand over the life growing safely between us.

The house was quiet.

May you like

The safe was empty of secrets.

And our future stretched out before us, bright, secure, and entirely our own.
