Part 4: The Trustees Never Expected Abigail's Final Witness

Part 4
The Trustees Never Expected Abigail's Final Witness
The silence inside the Armand estate lasted only a few seconds.
Then the front doors opened.
Six trustees walked into the drawing room, followed by two auditors, the family attorney, and a representative from Frost Financial Holdings.
They had arrived nearly thirty minutes earlier than scheduled.
Celeste's confident smile vanished.
She had planned every minute of tonight.
She had expected enough time to accuse Abigail of stealing before anyone could verify the records.
Instead...
The auditors were already here.
Rowan slowly closed the laptop.
His eyes never left his sister.
"You said Abigail stole eighty-six thousand dollars."
"I have the records."
"We all do now."
Celeste swallowed.
"Good."
She straightened her jacket.
"Then everyone will see exactly what she's been doing."
The senior trustee, Arthur Langford, took his seat.
"We received an anonymous request for an emergency financial review."
Rowan frowned.
"I didn't request one."
"I know."
Arthur looked directly at Celeste.
"The request came from someone inside this house."
For the first time all evening...
Celeste looked uncertain.
She had assumed she controlled the timing.
She didn't.
Arthur opened the audit file.
"Our investigators compared reimbursement requests with hospital records."
He looked at Abigail.
"Mrs. Armand..."
"Our records show you attended only two prenatal appointments during the past six weeks."
Abigail nodded quietly.
"I wasn't allowed to attend the others."
Arthur continued.
"But reimbursement requests were submitted for twelve home nurse visits..."
"...four private physicians..."
"...daily medical transportation..."
"...and specialized fetal monitoring."
He closed the folder.
"We found no evidence that any of those services ever existed."
Every eye slowly turned toward Celeste.
She forced herself to smile.
"So someone forged my signature."
Arthur calmly slid another document across the table.
"We thought that possibility deserved investigation."
"The reimbursement requests were submitted using biometric authorization."
Celeste's smile disappeared.
"Biometric?"
"Fingerprint."
Arthur placed another photograph beside it.
The fingerprint belonged to...
Celeste.
She stared at the page.
"That's impossible."
"No."
The forensic auditor finally spoke.
"It isn't."
"Because Mrs. Abigail Armand's account privileges were transferred six weeks ago."
"To yours."
Rowan looked at his sister.
"You transferred her authorization?"
Celeste hesitated.
"I..."
"It was temporary."
Arthur shook his head.
"It wasn't temporary."
"It was permanent."
Another document appeared.
Electronic approval.
Digital signature.
Security logs.
Every reimbursement...
Every transfer...
Every authorization...
Originated from Celeste's private office.
Not Abigail.
The room became painfully quiet.
Then Lena stepped forward.
"I'd like permission to speak."
Arthur nodded.
"You have it."
Lena took a deep breath.
"I drove Mrs. Armand to appointments for years."
"But six weeks ago Miss Celeste ordered me not to."
"She said Mrs. Armand wasn't allowed outside without written approval."
Another servant raised her hand.
"So did I."
Then another.
"And me."
The cook.
The gardener.
The night nurse.
One after another...
Staff members began speaking.
Each story matched the others.
Celeste controlled Abigail's meals.
Her transportation.
Her medication.
Her visitors.
Even her phone calls.
Every witness had remained silent because Celeste repeatedly reminded them...
She represented the family trust.
And Rowan was overseas.
Arthur slowly removed his glasses.
"This is no longer an accounting matter."
"This is coercive control."
The attorney quietly added,
"And financial fraud."
Celeste looked desperately toward Rowan.
"You can't believe them."
"They're servants."
"They'll say anything."
But Rowan wasn't looking at anyone else.
He was staring at Abigail's bruised arm.
For the first time...
He finally understood.
The bruises...
The missed appointments...
The exhaustion...
May you like
The fear every time Celeste entered the room...
None of it had been an accident.
