PART 5: The Forged Empire of Lies

PART 5: The Forged Empire of Lies

Legal documents reveal calculated financial theft.

I stared down at the crisp white pages spread across my grandfather’s ruined desk, feeling the last remaining traces of familial loyalty evaporate into absolute ash.

It wasn't just a power of attorney form.

Beneath it lay a stack of certified cashier’s checks, bank statements from two secret accounts I had never opened, and property transfer notices indicating that my mother had been slowly liquidating my college savings fund for Olivia and routing the funds through a shell corporation registered in Baltimore.

Total sum stolen: over one hundred and forty thousand dollars.

Money I had spent years earning through grueling project management contracts, overtime shifts, and missed holidays—all siphoned away quietly while I was told my wife was "too sensitive" and my daughter needed "discipline."

Jessica stepped closer, her hands trembling as she read the top line of the bank statement over my shoulder.

“She... she took our savings?” Jessica whispered, her voice shaking with disbelief. “Zayden, that was for Olivia’s future schooling.”

“It was for everything,” I said, my voice eerily calm as I scooped up the documents and slid them into a heavy manila folder. “She didn't just move in here to live out her retirement years, Jessica. She moved in to take over my entire life, push you out of the picture, and turn me into an ATM machine for her lifestyle in Baltimore.”

My phone buzzed loudly against the desktop wood.

I glanced down at the screen.

An incoming call from an unknown mobile number.

I swiped the answer icon immediately and hit speakerphone so Jessica could hear every single word.

“Zayden!” Carmen’s voice shrieked through the tiny speaker, dripping with hysterical rage and absolute entitlement. “What is wrong with you?! Throwing me out of the apartment in front of my friends like common trash?! You need to call an Uber right now, send it to the hotel across town, and bring my designer luggage over here immediately! And tell your useless wife to pack my silk dresses properly or you won't see a dime of my inheritance!”

I let her scream for a moment, letting her dig her own grave with every arrogant syllable.

When she finally paused to catch her breath, I leaned down close to the microphone.

“Mom,” I said softly.

“Don't ‘Mom’ me, you ungrateful—!”

“I just broke open the bottom drawer of my desk,” I interrupted, my tone cutting through her rant like a razor blade. “I found the forged power of attorney. I found the stolen bank statements routing money to Baltimore. And I found the insurance policies you took out in my name.”

The line went completely dead silent.

The frantic, screeching background noise of the hotel lobby vanished, replaced by the heavy, terrified breathing of a woman who suddenly realized her game was entirely over.

“Zayden... wait... let’s talk about this like family,” Carmen stammered, her voice dropping twenty octaves into a pathetic, trembling whine. “I was just trying to protect our assets! The economy is unstable! A mother only wants to secure her son’s future!”

“You have exactly two hours to get every single piece of your belongings out of the lobby storage room downstairs,” I told her coldly. “Because if you aren't gone by the time my police report is finalized, I won't just lock you out of this apartment. I’ll make sure you spend your golden years behind steel bars.”

I hung up the phone without waiting for her reply, sliding the screen face-down onto the wooden desk.
