PART 5: Ascending the Throne

PART 5: Ascending the Throne

Boardroom windows overlook newly conquered horizons.

Three miles away, inside the sun-drenched, glass-walled executive boardroom on the top floor of the Bennett Industrial Group tower, the morning atmosphere was quiet, calm, and utterly majestic.

I sat at the head of the long mahogany table, wearing a tailored navy silk blazer, sipping hot black coffee while reviewing the quarterly logistics expansion reports for the Midwest region.

My mother, Margaret Bennett, sat to my right, offering a warm, supportive smile as she handed me a newly signed international shipping agreement.

"The European logistics transfer is fully approved, Claire," my mother said softly. "The board has unanimously ratified your new executive charter."

"Thank you, Mom," I replied, feeling a profound sense of lightness in my chest that I hadn't experienced in six long years.

The heavy, suffocating burden of pretending to be an ordinary schoolteacher to appease a narcissistic, unfaithful husband was gone forever.

I was no longer hiding in the shadows of someone else's fragile ego.

My older brother, Nathan, walked into the boardroom carrying a thick manila folder, a satisfied smirk playing on his lips as he dropped it onto the table in front of me.

"Federal marshals executed the warrant at 6:00 a.m. sharp," Nathan reported, taking a seat opposite us. "Daniel and his little marketing director are currently cooling their heels in a holding cell downtown, waiting for their arraignment."

I opened the folder, glancing casually at the arrest report photographs before sliding the papers back into the stack.

I didn't feel anger.

I didn't feel sorrow.

I felt only a cold, clinical closure.

"Let the legal team handle the prosecution by the book," I instructed evenly. "No special favors, but no unnecessary delays either. Let the courts decide what six years of betrayal and fraud are worth."
