PART 4: A Mob Boss Learns the Truth

PART 4: A Mob Boss Learns the Truth

Vengeance turns toward the real enemy.

“Look at the screen, Adrian,” I demanded, refusing to back down, channeling every ounce of nurse-sergeant authority I possessed. “Read the dates. Read the wire transfers. Read the text messages between your head legal counsel, Julian Sterling, and your precious nanny, Karen Mitchell.”

Adrian hesitated, his dark eyes darting skeptically from my face down to the glowing interface of the tablet.

Slowly, reluctantly, he stepped forward, grabbing the device from my hands.

His eyes scanned the first message chain.

Then the second.

Then the corporate embezzlement ledgers detailing the millions being siphoned out of his shipping ports right under his nose.

The transformation in Adrian’s posture was terrifying to witness.

The arrogant, untouchable mafia kingpin evaporated instantly, replaced by a devastating, cold-blooded predator realizing he had been betrayed by the inner circle he trusted most.

The veins in his neck bulged. His jaw locked so hard I thought bone might crack against bone.

“Julian...” Adrian whispered, the name hissing through his teeth like venom from a striking viper. “That son of a bitch has been sitting at my right hand for three years.”

“He wanted your empire, Adrian,” I said quietly. “And to get it, he had to clear the board of everyone standing in his way—starting with your daughter.”

Adrian looked up from the tablet, his gaze locking onto mine with an intensity that burned straight through my defenses.

“You broke out of jail—or rather, Detective Santos smuggled you in—just to bring me this?”

“I came back because I saved Emma once, and I knew her life was still in danger as long as you were hunting the wrong person,” I replied firmly. “Now, are you going to shoot me, or are you going to help me save your family?”

For a long, agonizing moment, neither of us breathed.

Then Adrian lowered the tablet, turning his head sharply toward the hallway door.

“Dante!” he roared, his voice shaking the crystal chandelier overhead.

Dante Moretti appeared in the doorway three seconds flat, panting slightly. “Boss? What’s—?”

“Lock down the estate,” Adrian commanded, his eyes flashing with unbridled slaughter. “Nobody in, nobody out. And bring Julian Sterling to my study immediately. If he resists, shoot him in both legs and drag him down the stairs.”
