Part 4: The empire strikes back.

Part 4: The empire strikes back.
The top floor of Sterling Memorial Hospital had been transformed into an impenetrable fortress.
Private security officers lined every corridor, biometric locks were installed on every doorway, and only Julian's most trusted medical personnel were permitted inside the VIP suite.
Inside the sunlit room, Clara lay resting on a plush hospital bed, connected to advanced IV monitors. Her color had started to return after receiving specialized treatment and nourishment. On the oversized leather sofa across the room, seven-year-old Lily was fast asleep, wrapped in a soft cashmere blanket, a half-eaten gourmet chocolate cake sitting on the side table beside a brand-new armful of stuffed animals.
Julian stood by the floor-to-ceiling glass window, staring out over the glittering Chicago skyline. He held a glass of scotch in his hand, though he hadn't taken a single sip.
Marcus knocked softly and entered the room, holding a thick leather-bound dossier.
"The medical team cleared Mrs. Sterling an hour ago, boss," Marcus reported in a low voice. "Her condition was mostly caused by severe malnutrition and untreated exhaustion. With proper care, she will make a full recovery within a few weeks."
Julian let out a slow, quiet breath, the tension in his shoulders easing slightly for the first time in six years. "And the men from the apartment?"
"They broke under interrogation within ten minutes," Marcus replied, opening the dossier. "The paper trail leads directly through three shell corporations registered in the Cayman Islands. The ultimate beneficiary is Victor Sterling’s personal offshore trust. He has been paying off local gang leaders to keep Mrs. Sterling isolated, sick, and constantly monitored."
Julian turned away from the window, his expression hardening into a mask of pure steel. "Where is Victor right now?"
"He's currently hosting the annual Sterling Global Shareholder Gala at the Grand Hyatt downtown," Marcus said, checking his watch. "The board is preparing to vote on a massive restructuring proposal in two hours—a proposal that would grant Victor forty percent of the voting shares if you fail to attend."
Julian looked over at Clara, who stirred softly on the bed, her dark eyes opening to look at him with concern.
"Go to him, Julian," Clara murmured, her voice stronger than it had been in years. "Stop hiding for us. Take back what belongs to our family."
Julian walked to the side of her bed, leaning down to press a deep, tender kiss to her lips. "I won't be long, my love."
Two hours later, the grand ballroom of the Grand Hyatt was packed with hundreds of wealthy investors, news reporters, and prominent politicians.
At the front of the stage, Victor Sterling stood behind a golden podium, wearing a million-dollar smile and a tailored tux. He raised his hands, basking in the applause of the crowd.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Victor announced into the microphone, his voice dripping with false charisma. "It is with a heavy heart that I present this restructuring plan today. As you all know, my nephew, Julian, has been... emotionally compromised ever since the tragic loss of his wife six years ago. His grief has rendered him incapable of leading this empire into the future. Therefore, for the good of Sterling Global, I ask for your vote to transfer executive authority..."
CRASH.
The massive double doors at the back of the ballroom were slammed open, echoing like a cannon shot through the hall.
The chatter ceased instantly. Hundreds of heads turned toward the entrance.
Stepping through the doorway was Julian Sterling. He walked down the center aisle with slow, deliberate steps, his tailored suit immaculate, his gaze locked onto the man on stage like a predator stalking its prey.
Beside him walked a team of federal agents and corporate fraud investigators.
Victor’s fake smile froze. His hands began to tremble against the edges of the podium as his face drained of all color.
"Julian..." Victor stammered, his microphone picking up his panicked whisper. "What... what is the meaning of this?"

Julian stopped at the base of the stage, looking up at his uncle with a cold, terrifying smile.
"The meeting is adjourned, Victor," Julian said, his voice echoing clearly through the silent hall. "And your reign over my family ends tonight."
